A World-Historic Opportunity for the Iranian People
The MOU signed between the US and Iran imposes the victor’s terms. Iran got all its asks, some of which would’ve been unthinkable until recently.1
The US has promised to get Israel to cease its attacks on Hezbollah immediately. The US has accepted joint Iranian-Omani administration of Hormuz, including a de facto tollbooth. Remarkably, the US has committed to withdrawing its forces from Iran’s proximity once a final deal is reached.2 This will presumably be operationalized as the closure of US military bases on the Gulf littoral.
In effect, by agreeing to these terms, the US has formally testified to Iran’s new status as a great power.
