An alternative theory

Patricia Marins suggests that they got him. The lobby has prevailed. He may have wanted a deal. But they certainly did not. Now they have him where they need him.

This is not entirely implausible. But I want to suggest a different framework for thinking about the resumption of hostilities, that is to say, the receding likelihood of a deal.
