Reading old essays never fails to elicit embarrassment. As one’s comprehension improves, what once seemed brilliant and full of penetrating insights, looks decidedly shoddy in light of recently acquired knowledge. Embarrassing though it may be, the present author welcomes such moments where one realizes that one’s explication was misconceived, one’s conceptualization was misconstrued, or one was empirically inaccurate.
